The Good, the Thoughtful and the Insane

newsThis has been a crazy week for industry news. I’m guessing you’ve all heard plenty about Harlequin Horizons, so I’ll only post this one link at L’esprit d’escalier, in which a writer takes a hard look at the Harlequin Horizons package and breaks it all down.

Some happier news. Elana Johnson at the Query Tracker blog, reports that two new agents are interested in WF: Amy Burkhardt at Kimberley Cameron & Associates, and Stacy Carlock at Sandra Djikstra Literary Agency.

This interesting post at Publishers Weekly on digital publishing says “Romance readers are leading the adoption of e-books.” It mostly delves into the pros, but does mention the cons.

Irene Goodman from the Irene Goodman Literary Agency is “auctioning off 25 critiques of partial manuscripts to the top 25 bidders, starting Dec. 1st. All proceeds will go directly to the Foundation Fighting Blindness and the Deafness Research Foundation.” You can find out more about it here.

A post from the Observer at Guardian.co.uk says “US publishing trend, ‘bigger chick lit’, booms as women respond to more realistic take on weight.” According to the article, “the latest publishing phenomenon to sweep America, which has just arrived over here, features a new heroine: the young woman who is seriously overweight – and doesn’t care.”

Last, our own Kathy Holmes blogged about a wonderful group. Us! The new RWA-WF chapter. It’s a thoughtful post about the chapter and her journey into WF writing.

It certainly has been a cornucopia of news today – some of it bitter along with the sweet. Thank you for keeping us abreast of all this news. There’s an awful lot of it and not enough hours in the day.

  3. Really helpful to have this information, Edie. Thank you!!
