Bonkbusters, Scouts, Agents, E-books in the News

newsAccording to The Independent, Eighties-style bonkbusters are having a revival. The article describes these as the Jackie Collins style of books, but weren’t TV series like Desperate Housewives and the public’s fascination with reality shows like “The Housewives of New Jersey” a precursor to the popularity?

Was everyone but me aware there was such a thing as Publishing Scouts? If you want to learn more about them, you can read about their secret world.

Here’s an interesting article on Choc Lit, a Women’s Fiction only publisher in the United Kingdom.

For those of you who are agent hunting, Literary Rambles has an agent spotlight on Kate McKean of Howard Morhaim Literary Agency. The spotlight says:

Her interests lie in contemporary women’s fiction, paranormal romance, urban fantasy, literary fiction, narrative non-fiction, sports related books, pop culture, and health and wellness. She is primarily interested in people and the strange, wonderful, surprising, and heartbreaking stories they tell.

If you’re wondering whether to query over the holidays, this Guide to Literary Agents article might leave you more confused. It did me.

I got this industry information from QueryTracker’s blog by H.L. Dyer, M.D.:

Macmillan joined the stand against Amazon, following HarperCollins, Simon & Schuster, and the Hachtette Group announcements of their plan to combat low ebook pricing.

The Author’s Guild responded to Mark Dohle’s assertion that Random House was entitled to electronic rights for books published before such rights existed.

That’s all until next week. Happy Holidays, Everyone!
