Industry News: 2/27/10

Books Inc. owners are writing the formula for success for their San Francisco stores. It feels good to read positive news about bookstores.

Therese Walsh sent me a tip that agent Jenny Bent wrote a great post on STET!, the Backspace blog, on author-agent-editor fit.

This was the first time I’ve been to STET! and I’m wondering why it took me so long. J.A. Konrath has another great post on STET! entitled “What I Know.” He knows a lot!

Lizzy Mason, senior publicist at Simon & Schuster, has good advice about publicity. She says it’s never too early to think ahead.

Robin Maxwell wrote a wonderful article on promotion and how using digital resources rejuvenated her sales.

Here’s one more GREAT blog by J.A. Konrath on using the Internet to get your name out there and to sell your books.

“Your digital name on digital paper (the world wide web) works twice. First, it works for those who see it when it happens. Next, it works for those who see it weeks, months, or years after it happened.

It can be both instant and cumulative. And it can be very effective.

As of today, Feb 24 at 9:07am, I’ve made $2750 this month on Kindle.”

Kristin Nelson from Nelson Literary Agency wrote a blog with a title that says it all: You Need A Reserve For Returns For eBooks Like You Need A Hole In Your Head. She wrote other blogs this last week about re-evaluating clauses in contracts. With e-books, it’s a new game out there, and the old contract language doesn’t always apply.
