Southern Tier Authors of Romance (STAR) announce their January workshops. January 3 – 28, 2011: Completing Your Mystery, instructor: Jacqueline Corcoran. The writer will be taken step-by-step through the process of creating characters, coming up with ideas, plotting, writing scenes, dialogue, and description by using the advice, ideas, and exercises provided by the instructor that will sure to motivate you, and give your story that extra pizzazz. From plotting those red herrings, to all those necessary twists and turns and denouements that make every mystery a great read, Jacqueline Corcoran will be there every step of the way to help dig deep and get that mystery ready.

February 1-26: Muscling-Up the Gut of Your Story, Instructor: Susan Wingate. This workshop will instruct how to avoid writing boring middles of any story. Moving through each part of storytelling: The beginning, the middle and the end, participants will walk away from this class understanding how to develop a strong middle section to their novel.

Elements of RWA announces an online workshop, January 10-February 4: Story Structure, by Larry Brooks. This four week series will outline five stages of story planning: 1: Story planning versus organic story growth; 2: “Ideation” — the growth of an idea into a story; 3. The fleshing out of the four basic story elements at the pre-manuscript stage; 4.
