#1 Twitter can make or break our platform

This past weekend I taught classes about branding and blogging at the DFW Writers Workshop Conference. One question I kept getting over and over was, “Well if I write a blog, how will anyone find it?” The answer? Twitter. Twitter is like a traffic cop who interrupts the regular flow of traffic to drive certain individuals to your content. If they then like your content, they multiply your efforts and expose your content to their networks.

Say I have 200 followers on Twitter. I tweet:

Build your author brand the smart way (link goes here).

My tweet just told 200 people about my blog.

One of my followers is @BobMayer and he has over 3000 followers. He goes to the link, likes the blog and so he retweets (reposts) for me. It looks like this:

RT @KristenLambTX Build your author brand the smart way (link goes here).—Good stuff

Now that one blog no one knew about has not only reached my 200 followers, but now Bob has reposted and it reaches his 3000. Then someone in HIS network likely will also RT because they trust Bob for good stuff. See how easy it is for your blog to be exposed to literally thousands of people without you personally doing it?

Twitter saves time by maximizing all of our efforts. When we work as a team, we don’t have to kill ourselves to build our platform. We all help each other in small ways that add up to a HUGE difference.

I hope all of you follow me @KristenLambTX. The more, the weirder…I meant merrier. Yes, merrier. Twitter is a ton of fun and can help you construct a solid platform in a fraction of the time.
